4.5 was nice while it lasted, but I'm giving up on it for now and moving back to 4.2. It does have some nice new features, but the lack of google maps (the 90% freeze problem) and missing bbmaps was too much for me. The random hour glass for what seemed like minutes at a time also got very annoying. This OS seems to be very unstable, and it probably shouldn't have been released as a non-beta OS.
I was able to successfully use the google maps workaround to get 2.2.1 working, but the voice search was broken. Messing around trying to get google maps voice search working with this OS I did something (not sure what) that triggered the 90% freeze problem again, and the workaround was just too much work to do for a second time. At this point I decided to just move back to google maps 1.6.4 since other posts say that this works with OS 4.5, but I installed it over the top of 2.2.1 without deleting 2.2.1 first, and this has really confused my blackberry. When I run google maps now it is still the 2.2.1 version that is there, and of course it locks up. According to the applications list I don't have google maps installed, so I can't delete it.
I have seen some other strange things as well. When I hit one of my convenience keys I get a message that just says "OK" and things lock up completely for a few minutes. After rebooting the key was back to normal.
I'm dumping 4.5 now before I lose the ability to do a backup as well. I'm going to downgrade to 4.2 while I still can.
