| | Backup files are not valid

I have an 8830 which goes through the motions of backing up onto my pc, then gives me an error message that the backup files can not be saved. When I look at the file, sure enough it is 0 kb, and if I try to restore it and any parts of it, I get an error message saying it is not a valid backup file.
The files are all .ipd. I uninstalled, then reinstalled the latest version of the desktop desktop manager, but nothing changed with the backup issue.
Can anyone help?
