I personally have no problem viewing the highlighted item on the message list at all. The blue is just light enough to be ok. I actually find it just a bit difficult on your purple mystique (top dock, 6 calendar item version) but I love the theme, am thrilled that I bought it and wasn't going to bother you with this minor issue.
