Yes it does work! I have an att 7280, att simcard, no data service on that unit, yet it works like a charm. Hope this helps. Incidently, ATT only charges for outgoing messages, unlimites incoming SMS, so I have used teleflip.com as forwarding address for one of my gmail accounts. Now I can receive short emails wirelessly with no fees. Groovy
