well i have the bb pearl 8100 and upgrading from 4.2xxx --> 4.5xxx made my bb a bit slower. And yes sometimes it does go into the hourglass thing, especially when im trying to open a pretty big app such as google maps, but for the most part im satisfied with the speed. I havent heard anyone else with your problem though, best of luck.
