I'm using
XP Pro, not Vista, so this may account for the difference, but when i do this, my
standard modem is only available on COM1, not USB. How do I create a modem which will use USB, instead of a serial (COM) port?
EDIT: I discovered that I have a second "standard modem" which is on COM6. I don't know why, but it works. I'm successfully tethering on ATT using my new Bold, using "extra initialization command"
AT+cgdcont=1,"IP","WAP.CINGULAR", dialing number
*99#, username
ISP@CINGULARGPRS.COM and password
