Thanks for the reply. I was thrown off because the 7100G I had previously shut down when put in holster facing out and I got into that habit. I then tried it with the 8700 thinking that was the "right" way and it did not shut down.

Facing in is smarter though now that I think of it.

I appreciate you answering a newbie question but we are all newbies at one point and I did do a search for an answer first.
