How does that get email pushed to the BB without RIM involved though? The OP was not asking about browsing.

You actually need to set up a BIS account. BIS interfaces your email accounts with your BB, polls for email and pushes it to the BB. You can use a Blackberry email account to get mail delivered to your BB but we don't recommend that approach. It all still goes through RIM's servers but that's a requirement for push email on the BB.
