The biggest difference (and again nothing to do with AOL mail) for me is synchronized contacts and calendar and the ability to invite others to meetings. I can send schedule requests to my wife for things, forward work meetings to it and accept them and have them show up, and throw personal items in like various games and other ice time info. Redirector was a little awkward, especially if you travel much or have frequent blackouts (i.e. would never have worked when living in Redmond as power went out all the time). Redirector only works for email also, which is a shortcoming.
