I had the same problem with my 8900. I contacted my provider and discovered that a good deal of 'packages, books and registration info' was not on the phone upon delivery. I was instructed to tweak a few settings and had my phone re-registered with T-Mobile while they sent my phone the appropriate additions. Now my wifi works flawlessly. I recommend going through your providers service people just in case you phone is actually missing important elements.
