Default Dm Stopped Working

I recently installed OS 4.5 on my BB 8830 WE and DM 4.7 on my Vista laptop. I had done several synchs successfully until now. I am now getting the infamous "Blackberry Desktop Manager has Stopped Working" which stopped DM and abended the app. I have rebooted a couple of times but to no avail. I found some solutions that said to delete the Intellisynch folder and that would work. Alas, I tried that but then Intellisynch was not even able to start.

I did try something that temporarily worked. I deleted all calendar entries from the BB device (using the Backup/Restore -> Advanced -> Clear function) and that seemed to work since it added all my Outlook entries to my device. However, after a few more synchs, I started getting the error message again.

Help! I am at my wits end and ready to throw everything out and start over with a Mac and an iPhone.
