I've seen a similar post or posts like this before in this forum. It's hard to say what's the cause. I have heard before that there is a possibility that because your device is newer, it may be more "prone to interference" because it has a lot of technology built into it -- bluetooth, wifi?, cell, etc. Whereas your wife's 8700G is simpler (older).
