Yes, check your compiler version. Use only RIM tools for building, and make sure the version of RAPC (the RIM compiler) is less than or equal to your target platform. For eg. don't use RAPC 4.6 to run on OS 4.3. Check your OS version in the Options -> About screen. Also make sure your Simulator (if you're using one) matches your target device or you'll be seeing the error in one place and not another.
