I just came across the thread, New BlackBerry Backup / Restore Program - Beta Testers Needed, in the aftermarket software forum. That may answer my question in previous post, to an extent.

Still, my advice is if you are worried about "What if?" If you lose your blackberry, back up the blackberry, not just contacts.
