Have you reset the country code in Smartdialing so the BB knows which country it's in?

From your homescreen press the green button to get into the phone screen.Press the menu button and select options then Smartdialing.The top line of this page is the country code and needs to be set to the right code for South Africa so the BB knows which country it's in and so what prefix to use when dialing phone numbers.
