The tricky thing about cellphone getting wet is that water seems to seep through every little space available quickly... so even if you dried the surface and it looks dry to you, chances are water has already gotten in. I'd suggest you to take the battery out and put it in a bowl of uncooked rice or silica and let it sit for 24hours and then try again. Maybe everything will work perfectly again.
Something similar happened to my 8900 a few weeks ago when my mom accidentally knocked an entire cup of coffee over it and it was completely covered in coffee for only seconds. I took the battery out and tried to clean out as much coffee as possible, basically dipping my phone into rubbing alcohol and left it in our rice tank for 2 days.... results every thing worked perfectly but about 2 days later the lock button stopped working. I opened up my 8900 and found coffee stain everywhere, on the key pad, the mute and lock button... i cleaned it all out however the lock button is damaged for sure. The point of this is to illustrate that liquid works their way in really quickly. Now my case was a bit tricky because it was not pure water, if it was I am sure my phone would've still be in it's perfect state. Good luck.
