Apple doesn't want (or need) RIM developers. What they were missing however is sales/marketing skills in the Global 1000 enterprise space. Not only do these hires bring in those skills, they also most likely have long term relationships with the CIOs of these companies can can be leveraged for large bulk corporate purchases of Apple products.

FWIW, this is more detrimental to RIM then the poaching of a few Kernel developers.
