Press the GEO button that I have circled in red in the picture below,a popup will appear and you can touch "turn off" this will disable your geo tagging.

as for the backlight,I set mine at "10" works really well at that setting and saves my battery a great deal.

You can download a nice little app called "SixTools" lots of little nice features packed with it..but the most important is the added convenience keys with your Volume and Mute buttons,rim fell short by just having one convenience key with the device..
