Sounds to me like there is some other damage, perhaps water damage.

My suggestion would be to either take this to a repair shop to have it fixed by a professional, or cut your losses and buy one in good working condition.

You really don't know what has happened or what caused the screen to break. There could be so much more underlying damage that you haven't or can't see.
