UPDATE: OK just to let you know. I didn't buy a new battery yet as after leaving the battery out overnight, I put it back in the morning and it booted fully. I have since let it run down to nothing and recharge quite a few times to make sure the battery gets a good life again and it seems to be doing ok for now with that issue.
