Default 9630 Hanging

I have a 9630 running V5.0.0.975. I use Verizon. At least once or more each day the Blackberry hangs and then after a few minutes gives me the error message:
Uncaught exception: Application net_rim_bb_messaging_app(1772) is not responding; process terminated
I click okay, then it takes about 2 or 3 minutes before I can get back into mail.

Anyone have an idea what might be the problem or a fix?
