Interesting. In my experience when there is a heavy demand for power -- in my experience it has happened when running a navigation app with tracking turned on -- it is the battery that gets warm, and in turn warms the back of the BlackBerry.

It doesn't make sense to me that there would be a big hit on battery life and you would feel a warm spot on the device without the battery also being warm. Weird.

My money is on some sort of hardware failure. But you need to rule out software.
