Angry Storm 9550 Ear Piece Speaker Fail

The handset ear piece speaker on my Storm 9550 was never that great to begin with but then I noticed that even with the volume at the highest level I could barely hear the voice coming through. Then one day I could hear nothing at all coming through. The speakerphone works fine as does the headphone jack and it switches fine between headphone and handset speaker when I unplug the headphones.

I tried the common fixes of re-booting the phone, going into the settings and trying different combinations of the enhanced audio settings, confirming that the phone is set to handset speaker, plugging and unplugging the headphones, re-setting in media player for handset speaker.

Finally even ordered a new ear piece speaker and replaced it and still no sound!

Only thing left to try is to upgrade or downgrade the operating system or try the security wipe. Since I replaced the speaker with a new one and that did not help I am starting to wonder if this might very well be a software issue?

As I said, the speakerphone works fine so the phone is still functional and overall i am quite happy with the unit otherwise. Still have 16 months left on my contract too so upgrading to a new phone is not really an option at this point.

Any ideas??
