My Pearl has been frequently crashing. I deleted the log file but it hasn't helped. So is it worth reinstalling the device software?

I found some tutorials on how to do this, and they all start with saying that I need to locate the software for my device. I can see the list here: BlackBerry - BlackBerry Desktop and Device Software Download Sites

But I don't know which carrier my Pearl originated on. There are no carrier logos and I bought it second hand.

Should I use any carriers software?
