Is this over WiFi or the mobile network? If on the mobile network, it's because Vodacom is having problems in their 3G rollout and are also throttling users. Do a search on here and you'll see what I mean. You can try shutting off the APN under the mobile network settings, which will force Facebook to go through BIS, and will likely be faster.
