Default Why BB10 Doesn't Need Quad Cores

QNX powered BB10, PB2.1 does not require android like processor specs. Why? Because the QNX OS is so efficient.

Much is made about the quad core processors appearing in flagship android phones which leads many to believe that BB is underpowered or lagging behind once again in the hardware wars. However, android devices using their monolithic kernel require a lot of processing power to achieve similar results as the QNX micro kernel using a "lowly" dual core system. Ironically, QNX will only function in a multi processor system as it was originally developed as a way to link multiple processors. This is why legacy BB OSs with their single core processors cannot be upgraded to BB10 because the micro kernel requires at least two processors.

The benefits of the micro kernel system are that the amount of code required is about a magnitude less than a similar performing android device. This is why androids need comparatively large amounts of computer power to achieve similar performance levels. So, when someone says the latest BBs are under specked or lacking in power, you know that QNX doesn't need it which should translate to much better battery life. The Z10 by some reports lasts longer than flagship android devices with their considerably larger batteries. Battery life is key in the mobile space and QNX is an elegant solution to that limiting fact of life to say nothing of the much more stable platform created by the micro kernel.
