Default Have to release PIN/delete BIS account before selling Bold 9780?

So I have been getting conflicting information online about this.

There are loads of posts advising people to call their carrier and get this done, however I have also come across posts that state that for GSM phones, inserting a new SIM card automatically resets the PIN and that reseting the PIN/deleting the BIS account is not required for the newer BB models.

Can anyone confirm or dispute these claims? I want to make sure that the seller experiences the least amount of frustration/problems with their purchase.
