Question Unable to connect to WiFi with Q5

Been reading messages trying to solve my problem, now my eyes are bleeding. Please forgive me if I've missed it.

New phone BBQ5 and still very new to smartphones.
I DO have a data plan.

When I try to connect I enter my security key and get the following messages, associated with network waiting for authentication.....
Attempt failed.
Is authentication meaning my key/password? I've entered 4000 times now, I know it's correct. I have several devices connected without a problem.

In order to set up my phone when I bought it I had to set the router to WEP, not sure if it's safe to leave it that way but on the other hand my laptop wouldn't connect.
Thanks for any ideas.

When I contacted Bell Tech the best he could give me was to change my key which I did to no avail.
