One of the email accounts I added to my BIS account use separate subdomains for sending and receiving mail (ie. imap.server.edu to receive and mail.server.edu to receive) I seem to be able to receive email on this account, but any messages I send "look" like they send, but in fact are never received. I know the IMAP and BIS has been discussed, but this is a little different I think. I did search but didn't find anything like this in the first 3-4 pages of results. I am using Verizon BIS by the way.
