Wow... This might be a little off-topic, but to say "$100 rip-off" service isn't exactly a good term to use. Why do I say that? Well first of all, when you get a blackberry through a carrier it is subsidized, which means you aren't paying the full price for the device. Second, with exception to the carrier, who else are you going to get to unlock your device? There is only 1 person in the world at this point who can guarantee to unlock a blackberry, who isn't connected to RIM or a carrier.

You should come to Canada where the carriers will not only gice you a hard time to get your device unlocked from them, but will also charge you $250 to do it at the same time.

Word has it that Costco in the US is selling unlocked blackberry's. Why don't you get one of those and save yourself the trouble of having it unlocked?
