Was on the phone with T-Mobile for a while. They were nice enough about it, but were only so helpful. Supposedly this happens often enough that the rep knew what I was talking about. Unfortunately, I'm not able to put new software on the bb because nothing happens when I link it up to my laptop. It might as well not even be able to turn on in its current state (white screen, nonstop hourglass).
So I'm heading to the T-Mobile service center tmw morning. Will let you know what happens.
