The 8707 does not have EDGE, so in the US it will connect at GPRS speeds. Will it work - yes; will it be as fast in comparison to an EDGE based 8700 IN THE US - no.

Just like when you take an 8700 to the UK - where there is no EDGE service - it will work, but at much slower network speeds.
