What I have heard, to get the Amazon deal, you can not port your number to it. That means you have to have a brand new phone number.

Do NOT cancel your contract if you thinking of keeping your old phone number. When it's time to get a new phone for yourself, (For example, Verizon) Verizon will cancel your Cingular contract and port the phone number to your new cell phone.
