Interesting and something I had not noticed in 4.2. In Network - Data Services you have the options ON, OFF, OFF WHEN ROAMING.

This could certainly fix your problem woobag but remember you need to be on the daily charge of £5 for roaming data for it to apply. If you're on the fixed £20 a month roaming data charge you'll get billed for this regardless!
