Any cellular device uses radio transmissions to communicate with the network. If the device radio is off (airplane mode) then you cannot send or receive voice or data.

You must register a Web Client (BlackBerry Internet Service or BIS) account or activate on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) before the browser icons will appear.
