Default Problems Syncing with Outlook

I uninstalled my Office XP and installed Office 2003 this morning. I did the configure PIM and tried to sync. When I connect my BB to the cable it immediately changes to working and just sits there like that until I disconnect the cable. Nothing is happening that I can tell.
I have gone through all the settings and everything seems to be the way it should but it won't sync.
I do have a Microsoft Exchange Server could that be the problem?
