What type of server are you trying to connect to? Are you using SSH or Telnet?

With MDS a lot of the connection problems come from the MDS not being properly enabled on your device. If MDS is properly enabled you should see a new icon called "BlackBerry Browser" on your device, and you should be able to connect to Intranet Web sites with it.
