It may be stating the obvious, but these issues and more are resolved by subscribing to a Hosted Exchange plan.

These plans not only keep BB and desktop Outlook folders in sync using real push email, but they also sync Calendar and Contacts OTA, and raise BB functionality to a whole new level whilst retaining existing BIS settings.
