It just means the applet hasn't been signed with an SSL certificate, which is very common with free/open source programs (not just Blackberry midlets, but Symbian programs as well amongst others). Signing your application can cost a bit of money and isn't worth it to someone releasing free programs.
You'll be fine, this particular one isn't malware. Honestly the whole "signed applet" thing is overrated on any platform, it thinks it's adding security but in the end just confuses the users. Great in theory and on someone's white paper, terrible in the real world and with end-users.
