Upgradeing 6710 to 3.7 -
09-18-2004, 03:29 PM
OK t-mobile does not support this. If you mess it up it's not my fault or theirs.
First this to note is that I did this on the 16 Meg version of the 6710, not the 8 meg version. Also T-Mobile is my carrier, this should work across the board but no promesses.
Folow these basic steps.
1. Install the "generic" version of Black Berry Desktop software with out BES or the redirector.
2. Upgrade it to SP2 not SP3
3. Download the Black Berry Software for os 3.6.0.73 from T-Mobile
4. Download the Black Berry Software for os 3.7.* from Rodgers (a carrier that supports 3.7 on the 6710)
5. Upgrade your 6710 to 3.6.0.73 (i know it is all ready there)
6. Unpack and install 3.7 to your hard disk
7. Copy the *.alx and the dirs Java and GRPS to the 3.6.* dir from the 3.7.* dir
8. Run the Application Loder and notice you have the System Software that needs to be upgraded.
9. Ask question
Note: Back up info before starting everything will be deleted. And don't ask where to get the software from I had to google for 3 days to find it and after I downloaded it I lost the link.
Enjoy nice new features. You might have to reset the device again to get on the tomible network though. It is also safe at this point to install the BES version of the Desktop Software again. I recomend that you don't use it for the install simply to keep load times down.
Thanks and if you have any questions just ask away
