Default BB pearl won't sync with Outlook

when I connect my pearl to my desktop, it begins the sync process with outlook and will notify me of my changes i have made. whenever i click accept to the changes for my calendar/tasks updates, it tells me "unable to write or update application data". What do I need to do to fix this problem?
