One interesting argument for that, is that people call the 7100 series a Smartphone, and most definitions don't mention MP3 being a requirement, for example.

That is a good observation. What you point out, is that there are people who associate smartphones with MP3, cameras, video, infrared...

I've seen simple video on BlackBerry, and the 7100 recently got ADPCM ringtones (voice ringtones), but no MP3, cameras, infrared. I'd bet MP3 will arrive on BlackBerry at one point sometime soon in an upcoming model, but I don't think cameras will be a reality. Infrared was something that was supposed to be in BlackBerries, but they apparently left it out for security reasons. Thus, the useless infrared window.
