Doesn't this only apply (currently) to Sprint and Verizon's 8703 since they're reliant on a data connection for gps mapping?

Web browsing is slightly faster, most of the limitation there is the device itself and its rendering of pages.
Let's hope that one of these days RIM gets a grown-up processor that can (at least) compare with WM fastest processors. I realize that battery life has to be balanced, but there's certainly room for improvement, especially with RIM's drive into the media circus.

Sprint and verizon have had world capable phones for years: nextel i930, samsung ip-a790, samsung ip-i830, motorola a840 etc... They compare poorly to just getting your own unlocked GSM phone for travel but they work.
Absolutely true.
