I had the same problem on my new 8703e from Telus Mobility, I researched a bit and found that you must register your handset with your network first by going to:
-Host Routing Table
Click on your carriers name and click register.
Now that being said, it worked for me and all my browser/IM icons showed up but no guarantees it will work for you
....just hopefully some helpful tips for you...
