I tend to agree with you.
Looking at things from a BES admin standpoint... things that RIM feels are a potential security risk can typically be controlled through BES IT policies.
If/when RIM allows HTML e-mail on devices, I'm quite certain you'll also see a revision to BES which allows HTML mail to be disabled and/or controlled via IT policy.
No one thought you'd ever see a camera on a BlackBerry. As soon as you did, you then saw an IT policy which can disable it when the device is connected to a BES. I predict similar changes when HTML messaging arrives.
