Maxis Communications Bhd and Nasdaq-listed Research In Motion (RIM) have signed a memorandum of understanding to introduce the Blackberry wireless platform to mobile professionals in Malaysia.
In a statement yesterday, Maxis said it would pave the way for it to offer its customers a single, integrated handheld for all their data and voice needs.
"Blackberry will be the latest addition to Maxis Mobile Office Solutions to provide customers with secure mobile access to their office email while on the go," it said.
Maxis said Blackberry would provide customers access to email, phone, corporate data, Internet, SMS and personal information management applications over its GSM and GPRS network and roaming access.
"We are on track to launch Blackberry in Malaysia by the end of the year," said Maxis chief operating officer Edward Ying. Blackberry is a popular wireless platform in North America, Europe and Asia, with over 1.3 million subscribers worldwide.
Blackberry consists of integrated hardware, software and service for corporate customers as well as individuals and smaller businesses.
