The argument here is that VZW is crippling a device that we bought. That device was not "made" by VZW, but by RIM which included all these capabilities in it. By crippling these features (for the monetery gain only) VZW is selling a device under "false pretences" and a device which they have manipulated to fit their needs. GPS in the phone (since it's autonomous) does not fall under the same coverage as "service" or "service dependant features", so they have no argument as they would with something like MMS or SMS or anything else that depends 100% upon VZW's cellular network to work.
