GSM gets wifi because there's an available solution for wifi-to-edge/gprs/gsm and edge/gprs/gsm-to-wifi hand-off of voice and data traffic. RIM took so long to throw wifi in the mix because they were adamant that seamless hand-off was a requirement for enterprise users. I'm not a doctor, but I'm not aware of any such solution available for cdma. So until someone develops such a solution, you'll have wifiless cdma blackberries. At least you've got your evdo and (if you're lucky) your gps.
