Wirelessly posted (8700g: BlackBerry8700/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Check saved messages and see if you have unread message there. Also, in the folder that shows the unread message counter, put cursor on date at top of folder and bring up menu and select mark prior read. If that doesn't work, then jeremy's solution may be called for if the counter is driving you crazy.
