But I got the impression there was something "magic" about it beyond just moving files from PC to BB & encoding video. Yes / no/ maybe????

Video is tricky on the Blackberry. The "convert for optimal playback" option in the Roxio software does a good job of converting most video podcasts into a BB friendly form. What the BB likes is H.263 encoding, 320x240 for 4x3 video or 320x180 for 16x9, at 24 frames per second.
